Hot to Trot Teach: Tiffany Shepherd
'Bikini teacher' Turned Porn Actress, Tiffany Shepherd, aka Leah Lust, arrested in Okeechobee
OKEECHOBEE COUNTY, Florida 2/19/2009 - from www.tcpalm.com - The so-called bikini teacher turned porn actress, who became a media sensation two years ago, was arrested in Okeechobee County on a misdemeanor perjury false police report charge, according to recently released records.
Tiffany Lea Shepherd, 32, generated an avalanche of news coverage in spring 2008 after claiming she was released from her teaching contract in Port St. Lucie because of a job on a charter boat offering trips with bikini-clad and topless women. The school district cited Shepherd's "excessive absences," rather than her stint with Smokin' Em Charters, for the dismissal.
In the months that followed, the mother of three appeared on national television shows and said she turned down an offer to pose in "Playboy." In Oct. 2008, she said the teaching job offers weren't exactly pouring in, and later said that porn became her only option.
In her recent arrest, Shepherd, whose screen name is "Leah Lust," in November told an Okeechobee police officer that a woman whom she has a protection order against "came to the court and was making a scene and calling her names when she was exiting the court room," a report states.
On Jan. 21, the subject of the protection order told investigators it didn't happen and that she had witnesses - her boyfriend and a deputy - to confirm it.
She said she and her boyfriend were held by the deputy upstairs until Shepherd and Shepherd's boyfriend left in their vehicle. She said the deputy walked her and her boyfriend to their vehicle "so they could leave without incident."
The boyfriend and deputy gave the same account.
Shepherd was booked Wednesday into the Okeechobee County Jail on a misdemeanor perjury false police report charge.
Of her choice to go into porn, Shepherd told The Palm Beach Post's Josie Lambiet, she wasn't "particularly proud of it."
"To be honest, I hate it," Shepherd said. "I'm an educated woman, but I never thought it would come to this. No one gets brought up thinking they'll be a floozy."
from www.nydailynews.com 8/31/2009 - A Floridian biology teacher fired after posing for racy pictures has landed a new career - in pornography.
Tiffany Shepherd, 31, made headlines in April after bikini-clad pictures of her on a fishing charter got her canned from Port St. Lucie High School. She turned to doing porn, she told a Florida news outlet, after losing custody of two of her three kids to her ex-husband and sending out 2,500 resumes - some even to prisons - without landing a new teaching job.
"I'm not particularly proud of it. To be honest, I hate it," Shepherd told Page2live.com. "I'm an educated woman, but I never thought it would come to this. No one gets brought up thinking they'll be a floozy."
On screen, Shepherd goes by the name Leah Lust and has filmed five feature films, including one titled 'My first sex teacher,' where Shepherd portrays the very job she's been trying to get back.
"It's very professional," says Shepherd on the Web site. "Everyone's tested -- for venereal diseases and AIDS -- and I'm carrying around my little piece of paper that says I'm fine. They love me because I take care of myself and I don't run out to party with my money."
Shepherd got into the business after the captain of the fishing charter that got her into trouble in the first place recommended it as a way to make good money. Captain Gil Coombes, of the boat 'Smokin 'Em,' owns a porn Web cam studio with his wife, Kat, called KLC productions.
"We sat down with her and told her she'd never get a teaching job again," Coombes told Page2live.com
from www.associatedcontent.com 9/1/2009 - Former biology teacher Tiffany Shepherd has turned to porn after being fired over bikini-clad photos. Turning to porn was a last resort, as Tiffany Shepherd had sent 2,500 resumes in an attempt to land another teaching job. She's now making porn movies under the name Leah Lust.
Captain Gil Coombes, who owns the company that had gotten Tiffany Shepherd in trouble for the photos in the first place, suggested that suggested porn as a way to make money, arguing that at this point she'd never be able to land another teaching job.
While there are, perhaps, other possible career paths, I can't really judge Tiffany Shepherd for doing this. She's already lost her teaching job and custody of her children because of a few bikini photos. And she has made a concerted effort to find other jobs. I don't blame her for doing what she needs to support herself. At least she's not draining taxpayer money by collecting unemployment or welfare.
According to the New York Daily News, Tiffany Shepherd explains that her work is very professional, that everyone is tested for STDs, and that she is responsible with the money.
Firing Tiffany Shepherd for the bikini photos sends several negative messages. One obvious consequence is that instead of being able to continue a fulfilling job that she loved and where she making a positive impact on young lives, she's been pressured to turn to porn. Instead of being a real teacher, she's playing a sex-ed teacher in porno flicks.
Another consequence of Tiffany Shepherd's firing is that it sends a negative message to girls already in the porn industry. There may be many girls in the adult industry who have aspirations of getting out and pursuing other careers, but they may be afraid to leave out of fear that their past will be held against them. It seems a bit unfair that some of these people may spend the rest of their lives paying for choices they made when they were young. With cases like Tiffany Shepherd/Leah Lust, what incentive do these girls have for getting out of the porn industry?
Society seems to have double standards when it comes to perceived vices. The public was able to forgive George W. Bush for his past alcoholism or Bill Clinton for smoking weed in college or Barack Obama for trying cocaine.
Yet extra-marital affairs have irrevocably tarnished the careers of Bill Clinton, John Edwards, John Ensign, and Mark Sanford. If someone who has tried marijuana can be elected to the nation's highest office, then why can't someone with a few bikini photos be allowed to continue teaching?
Sex-related incidents seem to be weighted on a more stringently. We saw this double standard on American Idol as well when the talented Frenchie Davis was disqualified for sexual photos (in spite of having done nothing illegal) while Scott Savol was allowed to continue in the competition despite a previous arrest.
In any case, if Tiffany Shepherd/Leah Lust was unable to regain a teaching position after a few bikini photos, then it will become nearly impossible now that she is shooting porn movies. Hopefully she'll use the money wisely as she considers her options after the porn career ends.
from www.browardpalmbeach.com 3/1/2010 - Here at Pulp headquarters, a TV is usually on to record the major news events of the day, usually tuned to CNN or C-Span. But this morning, oddly, it was on that other paragon of responsible news, The Maury Povich Show. And who comes on the show but our own Leah Lust, aka Tiffany Shepherd, the former Port St. Lucie High School biology teacher turned porn star.
Shepherd, remember, was fired after the school learned she was doing some racy promotional work for a fishing charter company. Now she is Leah Lust, porn star. The weirdest part of her appearance the show today was that the studio audience loved her. Povich was beaming as he said, "You and adult films meet up. And how many have you done."
"I've done about seven," said Lust/Shepherd.
The audience roard with applause.
"Do the parents and the kids back in school in Florida know what you do?"
"Everybody know what I do," she said. "Everybody."
More raucous applause.
